
GTEC signs MoU to absorb Christ the Teacher College as a public college of education
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has ocially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
with Christ the Teacher College of Education, paving the way for its full absorption into the public college of
education system.
The agreement, which marks a signi«cant milestone in Ghana’s teacher education landscape, was signed at the
GTEC headquarters in Accra on Friday, October 24, 2025, by Professor Ahmed Jinapor, Director-General of GTEC,
and Rev. Msgr. Louis Ko
“By this agreement, the College ocially becomes a state-owned institution. This means it will now operate in
accordance with government policies, receive state subventions, and adhere to all regulatory standards governing
public colleges,” Prof. Jinapor stated.
He emphasized that GTEC, in collaboration with the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF),
would organize orientation sessions and capacity-building programmes for the college’s management and staff to
ensure compliance with national policies and operational best practices.

“We are deeply thankful to GTEC and the Government of Ghana for this milestone. We pledge to cooperate fully
with the Commission to ensure that the college operates in line with the government’s vision for teacher
education,” Rev. Msgr. Tuffuor said.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by several key stakeholders in Ghana’s tertiary education sector, including
the President of PRINCOF, Prof. Samuel A. Atintono, the PRINCOF General Secretary, Dr. Samuel Addae-Boateng,
PRINCOF Zonal Chair, Dr. Anthony Baabereyir, and Mr. Jerry Sarfo, Director of Corporate Affairs at GTEC.
Other notable attendees included Mr. Charles Mbeah, Head of Public Relations and Protocol at GTEC; Rev. Fr. Kirk
Kwame Siabour, Acting Vice Principal of Christ the Teacher College of Education; Rev. Fr. Dr. Paul Kumah, Quality
Assurance Ocer of the College; and Ms. Georgina D. Ofori, a Council Member of the institution.
The absorption of Christ the Teacher College of Education into the public fold adds to Ghana’s expanding network
of state-owned teacher training institutions, further strengthening the country’s commitment to high-quality,
accessible, and inclusive teacher education.
